Volunteer in a Sense shop

Connect with your community, make new friends and learn new skills all while helping support Sense to raise funds to help disabled people with complex needs.

From just a couple of hours when you’re free to regular volunteering days each week. You can continue volunteering with us for as long as you like.

Can’t commit for an ongoing period of time? That’s ok! We welcome applications from students on holiday breaks or those seeking employment.

“If you’re thinking of volunteering, it’s a fantastic thing to do and you’ll go home feeling absolutely amazing afterwards.”

What kind of work do shop volunteers do?

No two days in a Sense charity shop are the same. It’s a busy, fun and varied role. There’s always the opportunity to try something new with the support your manager and the rest of your team.

Some of the things you might be doing include:

  • Welcoming customers into the shop.
  • Chatting with customers and helping them to find what they’re looking for.
  • Serving customers at the till.
  • Creating our eye-catching window displays.
  • Organising through, selecting and pricing donations.
  • Supporting the shop team with admin tasks.
  • Keeping the shop floor neat and tidy.
  • Representing Sense as an ambassador to promote the shop and our cause.

Find the full description on our roles.

If you’re interested in taking on extra responsibility, we also offer a Key Volunteer role, ideal for someone who can commit to providing regular support to their local shop. Key Volunteers assist the management team in running the shop, training other volunteers, and so much more.

“That little bit of time that you’re giving to volunteer does so much for you as well.”

Claire, Shop Manager (previously a Volunteer)
