Sense Awards Judge: Tasha Ghouri

Tasha Ghouri is this year’s Head Judge for the Sense Awards. A television personality, author and campaigner, Tasha has long championed disability inclusion and representation, and uses her platform to encourage people to learn British Sign Language. Tasha was born deaf and has worn a cochlear implant since the age of five. She describes being deaf as her “superpower” and has written two books about deafness using her own experiences.

Her debut novel, Hits Different is a romantic fiction about a deaf girl who dreams of becoming a dancer, while her memoir Your Superpower reflects on Tasha’s upbringing and celebrates all disabilities and differences. In 2024, Tasha was proud to be one of two Strictly Come Dancing finalists with a disability, coming runner up to her blind co-star Chris McCausland. She was also the first ever deaf person to appear on Love Island. Her other TV credits include Countdown, The Weakest Link and CelebAbility.

I’m really grateful that Sense has asked me to be a judge at this year’s Sense Awards, particularly as the charity is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year, supporting disabled people to be connected and included.

I’m passionate about disability inclusion and celebrating the incredible achievements of disabled people, which is what the Sense Awards is all about. I’m looking forward to reading all the nominations and picking the winners!
