Sense Ambassador: Crip Ladywood

A drag artist sits in their wheelchair in a red satin background, holding a tiara in their left hand.

Crip Ladywood, one of the UK’s only wheelchair-using drag artists, rolled onto the Birmingham drag scene in late 2021 and has been going from strength to strength since, winning of Europe’s biggest Drag King contest, ManUp!, in 2024.

Crip first met the Sense family at Birmingham Pride, where the charity exhibited, and was later invited to judge the Sense Awards 2024.

When not in drag Crip’s alter ego Emma, has over a decade of experience in disabled peoples’ activism and campaigning. A public speaker and educator, Emma is currently the Access Lead of Birmingham Pride, a director of Queer Stage Revolution, and a proud Equity member.

I am so thrilled to have been made a Sense Ambassador. As a genderqueer, bisexual, fat, neurodivergent, wheelchair user, I believe I bring a unique perspective to the drag world which touches on what it is to be proud of one’s existence and the importance of finding and treasuring moments of lightness and joy – Sense shares similar values and I’m delighted to support the charity as it marks its 70th anniversary.
