When you first join Sense<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
So, you\u2019ve got a new job with Sense \u2013 congratulations! First things first, you\u2019ll get an induction tailored specifically to you. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
You\u2019ll get a mixture of online and face-to-face training. In this sessions you’ll learn about Sense, our health and safety procedures, safeguarding, and equality and diversity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After your induction, you’ll have the opportunity to take an online introduction to British Sign Language (BSL) course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If you have a role directly supporting disabled people with complex needs, you’ll also be trained in:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emergency first aid.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Dysphagia awareness.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Positive behaviour support.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Medication awareness.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Infection prevention and control.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
The Care Certificate (England) and Induction Standards (Wales and Northern Ireland).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
During your time at Sense<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
After your induction, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to learn on the job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We offer a programme of over 100 online and face-to-face learning opportunities, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n
Wellbeing courses<\/strong>: anxiety awareness, stress management, mindfulness and keeping active.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Personal development courses:<\/strong> time management, mentoring, unconscious bias and assertiveness skills.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Practice development for frontline support workers<\/strong>: communication methods, guiding, identity, sexuality and personal relationships, personalisation and active support and healthcare training.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Leadership and management development<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
Learning opportunities outside of Sense<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
Sense takes part in two external development programmes. Any of our eligible staff are encouraged to apply for these opportunities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n
Mentoring:<\/strong> we\u2019re part of a cross-organisational mentoring programme, matching interested members of staff with an experienced mentor from another charity. Anyone who works at Sense can also act as a mentor themselves if they\u2019d like to.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Moving Up:<\/strong> this programme, run by Skills for Care, trains people from Black, Asian or minority ethnic communities in leadership. The programme is a combination of learning networks, mentoring and one-to-one coaching. Find out more about the Moving Up programme.<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n\t
